Getting People Back to Church – The Power of the Big Day

back to churchAs summer comes to an end, people are making their way “Back to Church”. This is also an opportunity to reach new people with the power of a BIG DAY.

You’ve had BIG DAYS in your life. Think about the day you graduated from high school or college, the day you got married. These are the days that change everything. They infuse a new spark into life. And they are not days that happen haphazardly.

These are days you plan for, prepare for, and eagerly look toward so that when that big day came you would have everything in place. You were ready for it. You were positioned to fully receive the change it was going to bring into your life.

If we plan big days in our lives and those days have the potential to change everything for us, why can’t we assume that the same truth would apply to our churches? Think about it this way: What if there were additional “Easter-level” days in your church year every year? Could that help your church grow? Could those days help you reach more of your community for Jesus?

Well, one of the best ways to break through your next attendance barrier and jump start your evangelism system is through the use of a proven strategy called The Big Day.

A BIG DAY is an all-out push toward a single Sunday for the purpose of breaking the next growth barrier and setting an attendance record in the church, in order to reach as many people as possible for Jesus.

The early church gives us great examples of the power of big days:

The Book of Acts begins with the “biggest” big day of all – Pentecost! On that one day, the church grew from 120 believers (Acts 1:15) to over 3,000 (Acts 2:41).

By Acts 4:4, the church had grown to at least 5,000 people and by Acts 5:14 multitudes were being added to the church.

In Acts 6:7 we find that the church was increasing greatly and adding a large number of priests.

In Acts 8:5-25, there was a big day in Samaria, when a revival broke out. After that, we see similar events in Galilee, Lydia, Sharon and Joppa (Acts 9:31, 35 and 42).

In Antioch, a city much like the city where I serve, a great many came to belief (Acts 11:21, 24, 26).

The church also grew rapidly through big days outside of Palestine (Acts 13:48-49), in places such as:

· Antioch in Pisidia Acts 13:43-44, 48-49

· Derbe Acts 14:20-21

· Galatia Acts 16:5

· Thessalonica Acts 17:4

· Berea Acts 17:12

· Corinth Acts 18:8-11

· Rome Acts 28:24, 30-31

By Acts 21:20 the church is growing so fast that it’s impossible to calculate. James simply says that myriads were coming to faith (tens of thousands)!

Beyond the book of Acts, check out Ephesus, 19:10, Romans 8:31, Romans 15:19 and Romans15:23.

It’s still possible to experience a Big Day!

My coaching alumni and Renegade Pastors Network have seen the Big Day help churches across the country– we have watched churches running 65-70 break 100 through a Big Day, churches running 360-380 break 500 through a Big Day, and churches running 700-800 break 1000. So think about what’s possible in your church.
