WHY you should plan now to double on Easter (part1)

Easter is just 7 weeks away (April 20th).  The countdown is on and I want to help you double your attendance this Easter.

Why is it that we still have holidays around Easter? Why is it that certain businesses close on Easter, even though they have no particular religious background at all? It’s because of the power of the resurrection. The single greatest event in the human history is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Without the resurrection, all of what I’m going to talk about in this resource would be wasted.

Without the resurrection, you and I should resign our jobs and go sell shingles. I don’t know what it would be. I love people who put roofs on houses. If you’re a roofer, thank you so much for what you do. I don’t mean any diminishment on that, I’m just simply saying we should be doing something else without the resurrection. If there weren’t a resurrection, we should not do all this planning, we should not go to all of this effort, but there is a resurrection.

Jesus is alive and the power of the resurrection is available to us in our churches to celebrate on Easter, to plan for leading up to Easter, and to maximize the impact after Easter. It was also, if you remember, it was the resurrection that was the impetus for the start of the church. Without the resurrection, there would be no church. Without the resurrection, there would be no good news. Without the resurrection, there would be no preaching of the gospel.

Jesus is alive. If for no other reason than that fact, we should do the best we can to make Easter the best day possible. That’s the reason why, because of the resurrection. There are other reasons, but that is the most powerful driving reason there. We should do it out of obedience, we should do it out of biblical mandate, we should do it out of theology, we should do it out of need, we should do it out of all of that, but if you trace all of that back it goes back to the power of the resurrection.

Why not pull out all the stops and doing everything you can to harness the power of Easter Sunday to reach people and make disciples, the default path is to just repeat whatever they did last year (and the year before that, and the year before that, and so on…).
