Why Should You Study History? (Part 2)

A-Z-Conference-web-buttonIn preparation for my upcoming Church Growth and Evangelism A-Z Workshop, I  am continuing to give you my top reasons of why you should study history.

Over the next few weeks, I will give you reasons why studying history can make a direct and positive impact on your ministry!

Reason #2:

Questions that you are asking today have already been asked and answered by people smarter than you in the past.

Think about that. The very same questions that you are asking today, the same issues that you are dealing with today, more than likely somebody in the past has already dealt with those questions and answered those questions.

For example, as I was prepping my call with Elmer Towns, I pulled out the 108 books that I have from Dr. Towns on my shelf.  I was reminded that Dr. Towns has written more than 108 books, in fact, he’s written 176 to date and working on a brand new encyclopedia on prayer and the scripture.

As I looked through those I was amazed at questions that I deal with today regarding the church– questions of growth, spiritual maturity, questions that come at me from Atheists… these were the same questions he was dealing with those in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.

People who are smarter than us have already asked and effectively answered the questions that you and I deal with today.

Studying history teaches you discernment.  It makes you wise because you learn from others’ experience.

Be sure to watch for Part 3 next Tuesday!
