unnamedI’m very happy to share the following press release with you from my publisher for my new book Tongue Pierced. It releases on January 1 but is available now for pre-order from your favorite online retailers including Amazon.comclick here to pre-order now.

Mentor to pastors and bestselling author Nelson Searcy, releases Tongue Pierced: How the Words You Speak Transform the Life You Live Jan. 1 from David C Cook. Written with Jennifer Dykes Henson, the book is based on one of Searcy’s most-requested audio resources by the same name and is meant to help readers take control of their words and build a better life. The core message of the book includes a “30-Day No Cursing Challenge.”

Words form the future (“I have a dream…”) and symbolize international milestones (“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”). Words ignite cultural clashes (think Dan T. Cathy and the Chic-fil-A controversy) and bind us to one another (“I do”). Words have the power to create our atmosphere; they ignite psychological connections; they shape our thinking, determine our actions and ultimately construct our reality. Foul language, curses and negative words have harmful consequences while well-chosen words bring life.

“Too few people understand the ability they have to influence their own circumstances with every word they choose to speak,” says Searcy. “Perhaps the most interesting thing about our words is that they are a direct reflection of what’s in our heart. Jesus said, ‘Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.’ The words that fall from our lips not only create the environment we live in, they are also windows to the condition of our inner being.

“So here’s the unavoidable truth we face every day: The quality of our language directly correlates to the quality of our existence, as it reflects the state of our heart,” continues Searcy. “When we understand that reality, we can improve our lives exponentially by choosing to operate within its truth.”

Tongue Pierced is a practical guide for understanding the important role the tongue plays in everyday life, and how we can use its power to create the present circumstances, meaningful relationships and eternal significance. The information and principles in Tongue Pierced detail how readers can take control of the words they speak and begin using them to build lives filled with purpose, peace and love.

Ideal for both personal and small group study, Tongue Pierced includes a series of reflection/discussion questions at the end of each chapter. These questions will drive readers to carefully examine the language choices they make on a daily basis and help them discover how changing the way they speak can transform their reality. To facilitate those who would like to study Tongue Pierced in a group setting, there is also a dedicated website being developed now for group leaders that will feature additional discussion questions, audio teaching and more.

“There’s nothing you can do to make God love you more or that could cause him to love you less,” adds Searcy. “How frequently you do or don’t let a curse word escape from your lips doesn’t earn you brownie points or give you black marks in his eyes. It’s the other way around. Pure language isn’t a requirement of a close walk with God; it’s a result.”
