This award is given by the Society for Church Consulting and the Great Commission Research Network at the Annual Conference’s President’s Banquet to a person who has exemplified scholarship, intellect and leadership in the research and dissemination of the principles of effective disciple-making as originally developed by Donald A. McGavran.
The Donald McGavran Leadership Award was originally conceived by C. Peter Wagner in 1988, to encourage and affirm outstanding contributions to the field of effective evangelism. McGavran, still living at the time, selected the first recipient—Dr. Win Arn. Since then, the Great Commission Research Network has selected individuals to receive this noteworthy award.
Former recipients have included:
Bill Easum
Bob Whitesel
Charles “Chip” Arn
Rick Warren
Gary L. McIntosh
Flavil R. Yeakley, Jr.
Elmer Towns
Congratulations, Nelson, on this marvelous achievement!
– The Church Leader Insights Team
P.S. Nelson is humbled and honored to be following in the footsteps of church growth pioneers like Elmer Towns, Win Arn and Rick Warren – many of the same folks he will be speaking about at his upcoming Church Growth and Evangelism A-Z Workshop.
Nelson promises you will learn EVERYTHING about church growth at this event, from A to Z. In this practical workshop you’ll dig through the key principles, personalities and effective practices from the last 2,000 years – some ancient, some more modern, but all forgotten – that you can use today to lead and grow a healthy church.
