The below excerpt is from my book The Renegade Pastor’s Guide to Time Management.
Efficiency is vital in any business–and in any church. In a church setting it translates into better stewardship of God’s resources. Inefficiency is wasteful and even sinful in that it squanders the three most important resources God gives us: time, money, and people. Time gets wasted doing things in ways that need to be improved upon, streamlined, or updated. Money given to us by churchgoers or financial partners get wasted on initiatives that aren’t the most critical. And other people get frustrated when they realize that their time and money aren’t being well utilized.
To begin moving toward greater efficiency, ask yourself (and the other leaders your church) these important questions:
- Do we conduct too many meetings or appoint too many committees?
- Is there a way to do things more cost-effectively?
- Are the right people in the right positions?
- Do we offer setting sin which staff members can work quietly and uninterrupted?
- Do we have automated systems in place wherever possible?
These questions can help you identify key areas in which the efficiency level can be raised in your church.
