On a recent Strategy and Briefing Call with my Renegade Pastors Network, I shared some powerful phrases that I use at The Journey Church during our Sunday worship services. You too can use these words to tie various elements of your worship services together and ensure smooth transitions.
Little phrases can have big power. That’s part of the weekly challenge during your Sunday worship services. The wrong sentence or phrase can:
- Create confusion in a worship service
- Create distance between the worship leader or teacher or
- Create an awkward moment that hurts the impact of the service
But the right phrases, like these magic words below, can help you improve the life-changing impact of your worship services each week. We’ll cover both the magic words you should know and what you should NOT ever say.
Magic Phrase #1: “Good Morning, And ….”
What you do in those opening moments of the service sets the direction on what’s to follow. Be ready and know what you want to say. With this phrase you give a warm welcome and then tie in the day’s topic.
Do NOT say, “How’s everyone doing?” This immediately takes people out of the reason you want them to be there and puts the focus on their own problems
— instead of on God. It also comes across as not so genuine.
And remember to be quick; it doesn’t have to be long introduction.
Magic Phrase #2: “Let’s all stand”
One of your roles is to direct people on what to do next. Make them feel comfortable, and create a smooth transition. With this phrase, you invite people to participate and tell them what to do each step of the way. For example, if someone is new to service, and they don’t know the flow, they don’t know what happens next. They are seeking this kind of direction.
On the flip side, sometimes you have to remind people to stay seated if the opening is a performance song.
Join me next Monday when I share the next two Magic Phrases to Improve Your Worship Services.
