The Purpose of Preaching

Fall-Sermons-Sale-web-icon-2013This week I am going to share with you tips on developing your preaching calendar.  This has been a growing area for me at the Journey as we have innovated some ways to plan our preaching and to plan our preaching together as a teaching team.

It is really an interesting thing that we do as pastors, because we have to do it every seven days.  I have a lot of motivational speaker friends who only have to develop 1 or 2 speeches a year, but we have to develop one every week—and people expect a high level of quality!

What I have learned is this requires a lot of advanced planning!

So I am going to share some strategies for maximizing this coming fall season to reach more people.

But first I want to address the purpose of preaching.  We believe the purpose of preaching is rooted in the purpose of a Christian—which is to become more like Christ.  Well, that is also the number one goal of our preaching—to help people to become more like Christ.

God’s plan from the beginning is to call people to himself and then to grow them to become more and more like Jesus.  One of the things God uses to develop Christians is preaching.  So we believe that the primary purpose of preaching is to change lives.  Not just to share information but lead to life transformation.

Nelson
