Take the 30 Day No Cursing Challenge

Church Sign

Pastor Steve Reynolds of Capital Baptist Church in Annandale, VA, has started the Tongue Pierced campaign with his church.

How often do you think about the words you use every day?

Words have the power to create our atmosphere, to shape our thinking, and determine our actions.

Foul language, curses, and negative words have harmful consequences while well-chosen words bring life.

My hope is that you will take a close look and uncover the power of language to transform your life.

So here is my challenge to you:

Go thirty consecutive days without saying a curse word. If you slip, start over.

Tips for Success:

  • When a curse word is on the tip of your tongue, remain silent.
  • Shift your focus to something positive you can say – and say that instead.
  • If you aren’t sure whether something is a curse word or not, it is.

And if all else fails and you’ve absolutely got to blurt something out, you might try these alternative expletives:

  • Snickerdoodle!
  • Banana shenanigans!
  • Fiddlesticks!
  • Dagnabbit!
  • Drat!
  • Fishsticks!

Cursing may be an art form to some, but a life spent speaking words of truth and light results in a much more nuanced, more beautiful masterpiece.

Your partner in ministry,

Nelson
