5 Benefits of Planning a One-Year Preaching Calendar

kerrick-thomasThis is Kerrick Thomas – and for the last 12 years I’ve served alongside of Nelson Searcy as Executive Pastor of The Journey Church. I’m guest blogging today and would like to talk to you about the benefits of planning out your preaching calendar.

As a teaching pastor, I’m very familiar with the weekly grind of preaching week in and week out. But I also know there is a way to break the week-to-week cycle — through the power of planning your preaching calendar.

Planning out your preaching for 2017 will allow you to maximize your preaching all year long. Here’s why:

  • Lowers the stress from having to plan series to series or week to week.
  • Dedicated time to pray for the upcoming year and to seek God’s guidance for the entire year.
  • More input and ideas from staff and church members.
  • More time to prepare creative elements since you know what topics/ sermons are coming up.
  • Planning the entire year at once allows you to create theological balance of themes and topics.
