Part of your job as a church leader, a.k.a. the boss, is to give clarity to your staff and align the work that they’re doing with the vision of the church. It takes a leader to manage and motivate their staff, and an ongoing commitment.
Here’s a quick overview of two key ways to manage and motivate people: Projects and Process.
PROJECTS – Managing with Lists
Many people think managing staff is some kind of mystical thing that we do. But actually I would say it’s just all about having a good list. You should know, or somebody should know, what projects every person in your organization is working on.
PROCESS – the Role of Meetings
Somebody once told me, you can’t manage someone if you can’t meet with them. Around our office, we often say that meetings are the playground of highly effective teams. And so, you have got to be able to meet with your people. There also has to be clarity about expectations. I would say that 90% of all management problems occur because of mismanaged expectations, not mismanaged people or mismanaged projects.
I encourage you to add these powerful management tools to your leadership toolbox and make them a part of your weekly schedule.
Remember, it’s your job to align their priorities to the vision of the church and keep a constant pulse on your staff’s level of commitment.
Your partner in ministry,
Nelson
